Could Michael Cera Play Gilligan in the 'Gilligan's Island' Movie?
Gilligan's Island, the popular '60s sitcom, will be transformed into a feature film, reports Variety, and Michael Cera may be playing the lead role. No actor has been cast yet, but movie's executive producer (and original producer of the TV show), Sherwood Schwartz, said that the he was interested having Michael Cera play the main character, Gilligan.
The movie will be a modern take on the story of seven castaways of the S.S. Minnow, who get caught in crazy mishaps while stranded on a Pacific island.
The original series ran for three seasons, but after its last episode aired in 1967, it was syndicated on TV for decades. You may have even cruised over an episode while flipping through the channels. The movie could begin filming as soon as next year, but the script has yet to be written.
"The characters are so good," the film's producer Charles Roven said. "We think it's going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day."
