Jessica Watson Blogs From The Middle Of The Pacific Ocean
The last time we wrote about sixteen-year-old Jessica Watson, she had just set sail from Australia on her pink yacht, 'Ella's Pink Lady,' on her solo trip around the world. Jessica is attempting to become the youngest person in history to sail around the world unassisted and she's already over 2,000 nautical miles into her 23,000-mile journey (she'll be at sea for 8 months!).
And she's blogging and uploading YouTube videos during her voyage with the help of Sat Com's Sailor 250 Fleet Broadband device.
"I've got internet connection through a small satellite dome on the stern called the sailor 250," she writes. "This is what enables me to send video clips, pictures, blogs and emails but it can become pretty costly so I can't exactly just browse the internet all the time."
Today she blogged about a pod of dolphins that swan by her boat and revealed that she has homework during her trip!
"I started on a bit of school work this morning, thinking that if I couldn't be achieving forward progress, at least I could be achieving something," she writes. "But I can't say I stuck with it for very long."
We don't blame her. Life on a pink yacht is not as glamorous as it sounds and Jessica has a lot of work to do each day. For a glimpse into what life is like for Jessica, check out her really cool video blogs here.

Hello, Jessica. You know, no one would blame you if you decided to try something else instead of going for that record, especially when you would have to round both the horn of Africa and S. America twice and since you are only a young girl. Something tells me your boyfriend doesn't like you. True, I stink with my pessimistic attitude and for that I'm awful sorry. It just that, well, you know, if you value your life, you shouldn't be doing things that by normal measure are kind of crazy, pal. By the way, I hate to ask and you might think I'm crazy but can you please do me a favor and say "hi" to the mermaid (I forget her name) if you happen to cross paths with her (she was an amazing friend to me, once upon a time)???? And if you happen to meet up with King Neptune, please tell him I am as of yet detained although I'll get there eventually, seriously. He told me not to be gone too long....umm, I guess that was quite a while ago now (it's the economy, basically). Anyway, good luck and God-speed! Sincerely, Bryan Quinn
